I want red highlights, but i have black hair!! :(?

I dyed my hair black like 6 monthes ago. It's been black since, but i change my hair like 3-4 times in a year usually. and i have been desperately trying to get chunks of red in my hair but it's been black and i can't highlight it with anything!! i'm thinking of stripping it, but i only need the highlights to be stripped not the black. does anyone know how i'd do that? maybe foil for seperation??

Go to a salon....there they can strip some of the black out and add the red highlights. It worked for me. Good luck!

for a big job like this, i'd go to a salon. it's too tough to do it at home. stripping color can be tricky and easy to mess up.

You can use Redken Hi Fusion or Matrix Red Lights with foil. These are single process high lift and deposit colors that can be used on natural of tinted hair. They will go through black and give you a vibrant red highlight. They come in copper, copper-red, red-copper, red, red-violet, and violet-red.

I believe it would look good in chunks !!! you will need to bleach big blocks of hair, use manic panic RED !!! And yes foil will work for seperation.....

What I have done before is that you can go to a salon and tell them what you want to do...and what works is either the foil highlights or the cap and bleach that part of your hair(the hair that is going to be highlighted) then dye the bleached highlights red! It will work trust me!

hair can only take so much! its full of so much color already. If you strip it .Oh my god orange hair. Stripping is not going to get your hair back to its natural state. Best thing is leave it to the pros.

You'd have to find a way to lighten the parts of your hair you wanted to highlight first. It'd be pointless to try and streak your hair with it that dark. After you lightened it, then you can go ahead and dye it red. Best tips for lightening black hair...go to a salon, it'd be way too difficult to do it at home.

well if you want them red enough to notice them you should foil them with bleach like you would do for highlights. keep checking them but dont let them get too blonde... kinda like a caramel light brownish color... then wash that out.... get a color red that you think that you like and just run it on and through your streaks.
