Way too much red in my hair?

about half a year ago, i dyed my hair with dye from a box and it came out ORANGE. ever since then ive dyed over it countless times to get it to the medium ash color i wanted, but the red and orange tones still show through. what do you guys recommend to get the red completly out without too much damage? ive heard about products like unred and colorfix but im not sure if they work.

Red, orange and violet based colors are the hardest to get in and the hardest to get out. What I did when I went from dark auburn to blond is just dyed it blond and let it grow out. Eventually the red will grow out.

I also recommend getting a toner. Go to a place like Sally's and ask them what they recommend. A toner will help tone down some of the orangy tones in your hair.

you should meet with a colorist, they'll really know what they're talking about.

it might be a little costly, though.

i would reccomend you to go to a salon and ask them for advice. or you can just leave it until it comes off natrully

Some beauty supply stores and walgreens sell dye strip for your hair, i would give that a shot.

you should try to bleach it and start from scratch

get a color remover, they have them at drugstores sometimes as well as beauty supply paces.

They work kinda the same as bleaching, just a chemical process that removes color. I don't know how my microwave works but I use it all the time :D

Good luck.

go to a hair dresser..i wouldn't try to do it myself and risk messing it up more

going to a salon would be my best bet... they know how to mix the chemicals that you need to get rid of certain tones... by buying countless boxes of cheap dye you've wasted more money than a salon... which i only pay $80 for a cut%26amp; color... so ya... go to a professional!

Go to a professional salon, they can help you for sure. It may take several steps but they have been trained to fix.

I did something similar years ago, put on a semi-perm dye and turned my hair really dark. People were calling me Elvis.

In the end, it will save you a lot more money than trying stuff.

You may need to go to a stylist to get the color stripped - especially if the dye was a permanant. Most reds will washout and fade with time (meaning a few months max, usually), but it depends on how porous your hair is, if you are taking medication that will have an affect on how your hair reacts to dyes ... etc. If it is STILL showing through after almost six months and it is bothering you quite a lot, your absolute best bet is to go to a stylist. Hope that helps! I did something similiar and had to have a combination of my stylist and waiting it out until it was all gone.

I personally have had my hair go orange like you are saying, I found the only way to get rid of it is go dark like a chocolate brown, and then gradually lighten it to the color you like, it covers the red completely, dont use any color stripping products, all they do is strip all the color and make your hair brittle as if it had been bleached, hope that helps, take it from somebody whos hair has been like 20 different colors in 3 years!

well, what happens when you dye your hair is you lift your natural color out, and expose the underlying pigment that is left (depending on the level...brown, light brown, blonde....it could be red, orange, or yellow). haircolor then either intensifies or neutralizes that underlying pigment w/ different tones..again, depending on what level the hair is. after awhile, the haircolor begins to fade, which then starts to slowly and slightly expose that underlying pigment again...there's nothing you can do about it, it just happens. there is no color that will permanently get your hair back to your natural color. you must grow it out.

you could go to a hairdresser, explain your problem, and they might be able to helpyou out a little bit. i had a client whose hair kept turning salmon colors (pinkish orange). she would dye it, and a few weeks later it would come back. i went over it with a straight ash color (8A to be exact). it was dark and drab, almost gray-like at first...it really wasn't a pretty color. but after a few weeks, the grayness disappeared, and it hasn't turned salmon yet. this was 4 weeks ago. your hairstylist might be able to help you by doing something like this...but keep in mind that when you first get it done, it wont be a pretty color. this is the only option you have, besides letting it grow out.

simple buy a hair stripping kit! it will remove all color, and then dye it the color you want it to be

If you have dyed it over more than once, than don't touch it! Simply go to a hairstylist, and ask them to help you.

Your hair can fall out if you dye it too much!

Sometimes, out of the box color isn't worth it!

DO NOT GET A STRIPPING KIT!!! That is bleach and will just make your hair orange anyway...it's wayyy damaging. Mix (find out the level of your hair color how dark or light it is) Let's say your at a level 6...you need 6A/6BVor just 6V but it might like that woman said not be pretty at first...but it'll get better. Use 10Vol developer...go to sally's and get this stuff.
